Fifty!

Dan here, tomorrow is Carol’s and my 50th wedding anniversary. This post is for her.

50 years is a long time. As a hippie having lived through the 60’s and survived, I came out convinced we’d never survive as a planet for another 50 years ~ marriage seemed like a safe bet. We were 18, right out of high school.

Carol has been my “old lady” since early in high school and although I have received slack from people for calling her that, there is no derogatory feelings behind the term, only love. Marriage seemed like a good thing to do. We fit, and our love looked to last forever. Forever has not gotten here yet and I hope it takes it’s time getting here. I’m not ready to stop being us as I stopped being me more than 50 years ago. I have no desire to learn how to be me without her.

This and That

Carol here ~

Wow, it’s a wild one out there! The wind is coming from the northeast so coming down the pond towards us. The leaves are piling up on the beach again. Can you imagine if this had been snow? I’m not ready for that yet!

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here, Sunday evening, from the studio. Was a very nice weekend, quite possibly one of the last for this season.

On Friday Carol and I went to Freeport to watch the final soccer game of the season. It seems that this time of year contains a fair number of lasts. Our last kayak ride was the other day, I don’t think that it was intended to be, but it turned out that it was. The kayaks have been put under the porch to sit out the winter there ~ making the beach quite empty.

Not as empty as the front wall.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here Wednesday afternoon, Carol has taken herself to chemo today. I had oral surgery and had a tooth forcefully removed from my mouth. Needless to say she probably felt safer driving herself. The pain is about under control and jaw is swollen and sore. I guess I’ll be sore for a while, I doubt that is what will kill me.

Well, I got the sashing border on my quilt complete and sewn on.

Upta Rangeley

Carol here ~

We went to Rangeley on Saturday for the last home soccer game.  It was also Senior Recognition.  The weather wasn't great but at least it didn't rain.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here, from the fire, Thursday evening. Beautiful evening after a beautiful day. I know this will be over, probably very soon, but I am sitting by the fire in my shorts and I just put on my long sleeved shirt layer. Pretty dang nice for October 14th. I’ll take it.

Reflections

Carol here ~

I am loving this Indian Summer weather! The foliage has been beautiful and the pond has been like glass as there has been almost no wind during these warm autumn days, making for some incredible reflections on the water.

Yesterday Dan headed to Rangeley to help our friend Michelle unload her trailer and set up for Fall Quilt Camp. I had an appointment in the morning and returned home around lunch time. My kayak was calling me ~ there wasn’t a ripple on the pond.

Here is a photo I snapped yesterday am before I headed to my appointment.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here from the fire. Beautiful evening and sunset time.

Here is what the normal by the fire looks like.

I guess I fibbed Ethan, these chairs are a little bit more comfortable than the folding ones, although they get used as well.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here, Thursday night, no fire.

Good night for it but just got home from Freeport and another high school soccer game. Boys lost, girls won. Girls won in the final two seconds. Both were good games. After attending several games this season, I’m afraid I must admit something. I really have no idea how the game is played. I get the object is to get the ball into the other teams net and keep them out of yours, but beyond that I have no idea what is going on or what they are blowing the whistle at. Oh well, I guess its good I’m not playing. Still fun to watch the kids play and only a few games left this year.

A Visitor and Fall Foliage

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here, I was too cold for a fire, so am in the studio. Not much going on here. Nice sunset this evening.

I managed a little walk today, enough to bring the year’s total to just over 1660 miles. I need a couple of real good weeks to get a little breathing room in case I get sick or the weather is just too lousy to walk. I am finding it a lot easier to walk now that the weather is cooling off. Probably why I saw many 50 mile weeks last winter. I need a few of them now.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~ Thursday evening. It was a nice calm day today. I managed to burn off some of the wood I have been pulling off the pond. Unfor...
