Ice Out

Carol here ~

Good Morning and Happy April!

The ice is just about gone.  What is left was blown down to our end yesterday as the wind blew all day.

I'm always surprised the first couple of mornings when I open the shades after ice out to see water.

A Recipe

Carol here ~

Daughter Erin and her friend Audrey often made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies during their school years. I did have the recipe at one time but thought Erin had taken it.  Every couple of years she asks me if I have the recipe and I tell her no, I thought you had it.

She asked again a couple weeks ago as Audrey had asked her for the recipe.  Nope, I still don't have it.  Well, she must of hunted it down because I got a message from her with the recipe.  Yay!

So, I have it now and will share with you here so I know where to find it when she asks me next time.

Summer

Carol here ~

There's been a whole lot of this going on during these hot summer days.

Great niece Annie is swimming like a fish and I don't think her brother Alex is far behind.  So fun to watch them and think back to when I was a kid and doing the same thing.

August Fun

Carol here ~

Last week we went upta Rangeley to attend the Rangeley Friends of the Arts production of Sweeney Todd.

Everything about it was outstanding! Daughter Erin was the Director and also played role of Mrs Lovett, one of the lead parts.

Here is a newspaper review, written by Tim Straub.

This and That

Carol here ~

Wow, it’s a wild one out there! The wind is coming from the northeast so coming down the pond towards us. The leaves are piling up on the beach again. Can you imagine if this had been snow? I’m not ready for that yet!

Nessa's Chicken

Dan here ~

Hi, Dan again, I have been off my feed the last couple days. Isn’t that what the old timers said if they were a little under the weather, they were off their feed? I don’t really know but that’s what I’ve been told anyway. After two days of barely getting beyond my 5000 step goal, Sunday found me back on track again with a day over 25000 steps. Lets see how the week goes.

Some of you may know that these days I do almost all the cooking and grocery shopping at our house. Pre-covid, Carol would go to the store and if she had a list, she would get what was on the list.. nothing else. What is with that? The grocery store is where meal ideas begin, where you see something and read the labels and see what goes with it and think about how it could modified to be something we would actually eat.

Well, maybe that is how I used to shop, no more, I now shop from a list as well. Any daydreaming about meal planning has to be done online and then items placed on the grocery list to get local. Different process, different experience.

Happy Spring!

Carol here ~

What a glorious spring day yesterday! Not a cloud in the sky, temps around 60 degrees.

Spring

I took advantage of the warm day with no wind to sit outside, get some much needed Vitamin D, watch the ice melt and stitch the binding down on Rona 14.

Mamie's Famous Applesauce

Carol here ~

I make the best applesauce. At least that is what my grandkids tell me. The secret is this old fashioned strainer/masher/sauce maker canning sieve that was given to me by Dan’s mom many years ago.

Recipe

Anyone else have one like this?

Here is how I make it ~

TBT ~ A Quilt and a Recipe

Carol here ~

My Throw Back Thursday quilt for today is “Quadruple Bypass.”

This quilt was designed by me at my mother’s bedside during her cardiac quadruple bypass surgery in 2007.

The four feathers represent the four repaired arteries
