The Weekend

Carol here ~

Daugher Vanessa and grands Kailey and Jakob come over for a visit on Friday.  It was wicked cold and windy but we managed to get outside for a while.  We snowshoed on Mud Pond

and the kids went sledding.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Waiting on the second batch of snow we are supposed to be getting. I managed to get most of the 6 or so inches we received during the first event cleaned up and relocated. Now I wait to see if the second event amounts to anything. If it does I guess I’ll relocate it to where I want it and prepare for the next time.

#13 for 2023’s top is complete, it is for son-in-law Lucas. This top amounted to a little more than two of the previous tops.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Sunday evening. It was a pleasant weekend, it was nice to get out today and wander around on Mud pond with the grand niece and nephew. Crisp but not too bad. The birds have been busy at the feeders. Supposed to be some snow coming later in the week, Time will tell.

I went through the drawers after rambling at you last time and found two star fabrics and the sashing strip fabric I needed in there for 2023-12. So nothing had to come off the bolt except the back.

Flashback Friday

Carol here ~

Five years ago yesterday I traded in my 1996 Gammill Longarm for a 2018 Innova.  My Gammill had served me well but it was time for an upgrade.

Best decision ever!

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Sunday evening. Beautiful day today. It looked it anyway, neither Carol or I seemed to have enough energy to even set foot outside. I just opened the window to cool off a bit, it’s always hot up here in the studio, but primarily to be able to hear the pond better. I wish I could share it. Some of the reverberations and the resulting cracking noises that follow a good rumble are quite impressive. There is always something different happening here on the pond.

Carol is only two behind on the quilting side of my 2023 quilts. She finished the binding on #4 for 2023.

Quilts

Carol here ~

Well, I guess we are having a hard time keeping track of the quilts Dan has been making.  We thought the two he showed you in Monday's post were not #1 and #2 for 2023 but they really were.

So here they are again along with 2023-3 "all done".

2023-1

2023-2

2023-3

Here is Lena stitching on #8 in the background while I work on the binding on #3.

Dan just finished piecing #11 so I only have eight more bindings to catch up.  ARRGG!

We had a lovely walk on Mud Pond the other day, walked all the way around.  There was no wind and bright sunshine, love how the sun is starting to get some warmth to it.

The top layer was just crusty enough that we didn't need the snowshoes and could walk with our regular snow boots.

Dan was trying to add feed to the bird feeder but this little guy was not moving!  He just kept munching out on the suet.

We had Bluebirds at the feeder yesterday.  Hope they found some seed they like so they will be back.  Daughter Vanessa has Bluebirds at their feeder regularly.

Another weekend here again, enjoy!

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Sunday evening. What a change between the last few days and today. After below 0 temps, today’s 30 degrees almost seemed balmy. Note the “almost”, I included it for a reason. I anxiously await Spring. Carol is also anxious as well. She knows then I won’t be sewing as much.

Saw some of Mother Nature’s pets romping on the banking beside the pond. I was looking out the window drinking my coffee and cussing at the bird that hit the window and see a
Fisher. Much too far away for a picture but with binoculars I could easily see what it was. Cool to see and we wonder how often a variety of wildlife goes unseen. I’ve mentioned the tracks on the pond and that we never see the animals that make them.

New Patterns for Lena

Carol here ~

I recently purchased a couple of new digitized quilting patterns for Lena Longarm.  Both are from Urban Elementz. The first is called LOOPHOLE.

I used this pattern on a couple of the quilts Dan pieced last month.  It stitches out fairly quickly and looks good.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Tuesday evening up in the studio. Shades are closed tonight trying to keep more heat inside. It is getting cold out there.

Woke up this morning to a surprise, between 3 and 4 inches of snow fell overnight. It was a nice fluffy snow, not like the last storm that went splat when I shoveled it. This time the snow made very little sound at all. I cleaned it all up, even where I had failed to last time. This was beside the house and the neighbors fence. I was too tired last time to shovel it out after raking the roof and having all the snow land there. There is only about 6 feet between the house and the fence. Whatever I had pulled off the roof landed in the area. Well it got cold after that. This means that the snow that is there is frozen. Which means that it needed to be grub hoed loose before it could be shoveled out and put into the wheelbarrow and then hauled off.

Quilts and a Recipe

Carol here ~  I've had a couple good out front patio binding sessions this week. I finished up 2024-3 earlier in the week 2024-3 and 202...
