Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening out by the fire. It has been good fire nights, the last couple, at least. Dead calm and warm, we’ll see how the mosquitos are as it gets closer to dark. I just had to move back away from the fire, it was too damn hot. The way the wood gets stacked up on the fire, you would think it grew on trees. My wood pile is going down ever so slowly but is going down. I brought down three loads with the tractor this afternoon and filled the wood box. With the fire roaring now the box is being depleted quickly. Something to do tomorrow. Job security.

Not much has been going on around here. Some days it is too hot for this old man, others not so bad if I can get out of the sun. The sun and I are not the best of friends. I feel guilty spending all my time in the studio in the air conditioned coolness.

I did get quilt #18 for 2025 top completed. It seems like it took forever to get completed. It might not have taken so long if I had not changed my mind mid way through.

I had started out to make another Rule of 72 quilt, with columns of 4”, 6”, and 9” blocks. I came up with the idea of using four of the 4 1/2” finished blocks and adding sashing before I framed them as 12” finished blocks. So I used some of the 3” finished V-block stars and used them in the center of the nine patch blocks made from 3” units, then framed them to 12”. I was pleased with the outcome.

2025-18

This was my favorite block.

I like the frog. It is too bad you can’t see the details, but most blocks have fussy cut centers and generally a lot going on.

I water my flower etc. beds about every day. There have been a few times that I have scared a frog out of the way. Here is one that hung around long enough for me to get a picture.

It is not the same species of frog that was hanging out on the awning that Carol told you about, just another one of the many interesting things around here.

The cucumbers are being trained and are doing great. I am now seeing some that have been fertilized and are slowly getting ready to be included in Carol’s salads.

I think that it supposed to rain later. I don’t know for sure as the weather forecast has said that the last couple days with no real rain. Doesn’t really matter to me. A rainy day is either spent in the studio or doing errands. Tomorrow I have errands to do either way, then it is supposed to be a half decent weekend. Saturday is to be the better of the two days.

I am thinking of baking beans on Saturday as long as I remember to soak them tomorrow night. The last batch was good. We’ll see, time will tell, enjoy your weekend and stay safe.
