This and That

Carol here ~

We headed up to Rangeley Saturday.

As we were coming into Rumford on the way up we saw the most beautiful rainbow I have ever seen.  We could see the whole arc, of course a picture doesn't do it justice especially when in a car but...

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Another windy day with at least part of which I spent raking leaves on the beach.

The total tractor bucket count to date is 39 counting the three from today. Most of today was spent doing errands. BJ’s and some groceries.

The Bluejays have been pigs at the feeder in the mornings. I only have a seed tray and some suet out now but the birds are loving it. The Bluebirds have been around some mornings and when I came home from errands I saw two Cardinals, a male and a female. The female took off right away but the male hung for a couple photos.

Around the Pond

Carol here ~

We went to the soccer game and senior recognition in Rangeley on Friday.  It was a beautiful afternoon but we were glad we brought our heated jackets and quilts as by the time the sun went down it was pretty chilly.

It was a fun game to watch, Parker has some pretty fancy footwork.

Me, Parker, Erin, Dan

Following the game we went to supper with Parker and Erin then headed home.  It was a beautiful ride home as the moon was in front of us most of the way.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, up in the studio. The weather the last couple days has been down right cold and extremely windy. The wind helps bring the leaves to the beach but it also makes it way too uncomfortable to go out and rake them up. The wind let up today and raking is what I spent much of my day doing. The ongoing tractor bucket tally of loads hauled off the beach is at 25. I’m sure that there will be a great many more bucket loads before the snow arrives and the bucket is swapped out for the snowblower. I hope that is a ways into the future.

The Featherweights

Carol here ~

We have two Singer 221 Featherweight sewing machines.

The black one is a limited edition anniversary model made in 1951 to celebrate Singer's hundredth year.  The emblem is inscribed "A Century of Sewing Service 1851-1951.  Of the 1, 950,000 221's made only 12% were this model.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, I guess it’s Thursday evening since Carol just informed me Friday is tomorrow. So here I am rambling away, Carol skipped you, she said that nothing had happened. So I’ll ramble a few minutes and then go sew.

I tell you sewing beats what I was doing all day. I have been proceeding on my crawl space project and having just about as much fun as any old man can have. I don’t think it beats cutting up wood, but it’s right up there. I have now placed 6 mil plastic over the majority of the crawl space floor, what’s left I will finish tomorrow. I have spread about three +/- yards of stone underneath, both above and below the plastic. I can sense a big difference in the air quality under there. I have always contended that the crawl space is why I take allergy meds daily. I never did until I moved here. Here are a couple pics of the process.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

A nice calm Thursday evening out by the fire. Tonight’s view up the pond.

I finally was able to buy the steel that I wanted for my fire pit. It has taken almost all summer, I now have it and put it in place as soon as I got it home.

Foliage

Carol here ~

We went to a soccer game in Rangeley yesterday.  Heard the foliage was just about at peak so we left early enough for a few stops on the way.

It was a pretty ride up and yes, I would say it's peak leaf peeping time.  We took a few photos but you just don't get the color using your iphone camera.

Here are a few we took for you to enjoy.
