Thursday evening, up in the studio. The weather the last couple days has been down right cold and extremely windy. The wind helps bring the leaves to the beach but it also makes it way too uncomfortable to go out and rake them up. The wind let up today and raking is what I spent much of my day doing. The ongoing tractor bucket tally of loads hauled off the beach is at 25. I’m sure that there will be a great many more bucket loads before the snow arrives and the bucket is swapped out for the snowblower. I hope that is a ways into the future.
The bulk of the grunt work in the crawl space is complete. The plastic was laid down over all the existing dirt and the joints sealed. Then I dragged under about four yards of small river rock and spread it over the plastic. I had help on Friday as I had posted for a laborer on the local Facebook page. The two hours that he helped by filling the buckets and passing them underneath the building to me, thus saving me having to crawl out and refill them myself, made all the difference in the world. I was able to finish up the stone yesterday as well as getting my plywood laid back down so there is something to crawl on.
All that is left down there now is to pipe out the sump pump and create an electrical outlet. I may also make a few changes to the water system as well. I will be glad to see that project 100% complete.
Last night the moon was almost full and was lighting up the pond quite well. I took this picture at 11:30, I used a 3 second time lapse.
It was amazing how much light was picked up. Hopefully tonight won’t get too cloudy and it will be visible as well.
In the studio, #27 for 24 is complete.
I used a concept I have used many times before, that is to take blocks that are not quite square or are not true to size and frame them with fabric then trim to the size I want. I did this with several of the blocks and then made more 9” finished blocks to go with them, using units pre-made found in my stash bins.
Carol calls my closet of stash bins my Mary Poppins closet. That is because I just keep pulling out the needed parts and pieces to complete my creations. Not always though, as #28 sees me making a lot of flying geese from scratch. #27 was then finished off with sashing strips and corner stones in a three color pattern laid out just like the #26. In this one the corner stone stars stand out much better because all the blocks are framed so the stars don’t become obscured like they did with some of the blocks in #26.
Headed up to Rangeley tomorrow for the final soccer game of the season and unless Parker continues to play in college, probably the last soccer game I ever attend. I can’t say I have figured out fully how to play the game but it has been fun watching the grandsons play.
The weather forecast is looking pretty good for getting more fall projects completed or just sitting around, whichever is more your style. I have never been much of a sit around kinda guy, I need to be doing. Mostly don’t matter what, just doing something. Probably why I had the gardens and the greenhouse and the shop etc, to putter in, that way there was always doing that could be did.
Enjoy your weekend. Stay safe.
