Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Labor Day is this weekend if you can believe that. I am finding it difficult, I have no idea where this summer has gone.

The two graduated seniors are ensconced in their respective dorm environments, Kailey at MECA in Portland and Parker at Bates in Lewiston.  Evan returns to his dorm at USM this weekend as well. New adventures for them all.

Another Bag Request

Carol here ~

It seems like grand Evan has confiscated his mother's Chubby Charmer bag that I made her (many years ago) as I got a request from Erin for another.  I think I've actually made her several in the past including this well loved one that is still being used.

The Horseshoe Tourney

Carol here ~

Sunday was the 37th Annual Green Pond Horseshoe Tournament started by my mom, Avis Coolidge, a champion horseshoe pitcher. Sister Terri has kept the yearly event going since our mom passed in 2018. (minus a couple of c***d years)

It was a beautiful day for friends, relatives and neighbors to enjoy.

I'm just going to do a photo dump of the day.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, by just about anybody's standards the last few days have been hot. Too hot to breathe even. I thought twice about going swimming but I never did. I did put my bathing suit on and went out with the net scooping up snails. The pond now has an abundance of Chinese Mystery Snails. They are invasive as they over compete with native snails and carry parasites as well. I have been going out on these warm days and gathering up a gallon and a half or so of the damn things. They range from small 1/2” things up to about 1-1/2”. I scoop them up and when the fire is good and hot I dump them in. Boy don’t they sizzle and crackle. Lots of excitement here on Green pond.

Tonights sunset was nice, but as I’ve said before I prefer the shot after sunset with a time lapse. Here is tonights.

Hot!

Carol here ~

Holy hotness!  It's been way too hot for me to be outside so I decided to stay inside in the A/C and wash the outside of all the kitchen cupboards.  I was down most of last week with a cold so it felt good to be productive.

All this heat with no rain is making the water go down and the beach grow.  You can see the difference in the size of the beach from one day to the next.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Not much happening here on the pond. Hot heavy daytime weather kept me in the studio most of the day. Having no interest in the water and with no projects that can’t wait until cooler temps, that seemed like a nice cool place to be. Carol has been under the weather this week so we both have been laying low. I’ve been bunking in the studio so hopefully we share less germs. The weather is supposed to get hotter over the weekend, I don’t believe there is any real rain in sight,. You got it time will tell.

The lily has finished it’s display for another season.

A Birthday

Carol here ~

Thanks to all of you that sent me birthday wishes for my birthday yesterday.  I don't pay any attention to the number but I am grateful I am still here and able to be fairly active most of the time.

Erin, Vanessa, Kailey and Jakob came over, Evan was already here as he had worked the previous night.  I didn't know they were coming over until just a few hours before they showed up.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

It’s Thursday evening. Today was another day of weather ups and downs. Yesterday was incapacitating it was so hot. Today it was cool and raining. I was content to stay in the studio most of the day. More from the studio later.

As Carol told you the other day, we went to Rangeley last Saturday. What she didn’t think to mention was the very cool sight we saw on the way home. Until we arrived on the camp road I had only seen one critter, it was a small kitty scooting across the road. On the camp road we saw a huge owl barely more than windshield height, come swooping into view and disappear into the woods. I thought it was rather cool. I often hear the Barred owls calling in the evening and late at night. Sometimes there are three or four calling and answering back as they go about their owl business.

Dan here ~ Thursday evening by the fire. Pretty evening albeit a bit chilly.  I suppose that is to be expected this time of year. That doe...
