Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday again. The weather is still miserable and cold and is destined to stay that way a while longer. I think the ice is trying to melt but the progress is slow.

My class at Sew Orchid Design last Saturday went very well. Everyone seemed to have both enjoyed themselves and to have learned the use of their Tucker Trimmer. I believe many of them are signed up for the next classes and discussion has started about when other classes can be added.

The side wall of the shop has grown to be my showcase wall. I now have four hanging there, three for sale. With April being Maine Shop Hop season there will be many people moving through as they visit the Maine quilt shops.

I will be there off and on throughout the month talking tools and answering questions.

Not much happening around here. I did get out the other day when it was warmer and clean up a few of the blown down sticks. They are easier to see before the new leaves and living vegetation wake up. Plus there is the whole insect scenario that will arrive with the warmer temps. The time we get with warm temps and no insects is very short indeed.

Time is still being spent in the studio where it apt to be too warm not too cold. Works for me. The current quilt top #21 is moving along slowly as there are a lot of steps throughout the process on this one. I found a fabric while roaming around Sew Orchid Design that showed promise as a fussy cut diamond rect. The prints are of covered bridges which were a favorite of my father-in-law.

I managed to get the centers for forty Diamond Rect units out of the yard of fabric I bought. The units have been completed and will be used under the blocks as part of the sashing strips. The blocks are being made using squares of fabric and Square squared units with fussy cut centers. They will then be framed with a common fabric to become 8” finished blocks. The vertical sashing strips and the 1” on either side of the covered bridge unit is still being determined. I have faith the voices will come up with something. Time will tell.

I have faith warmer weather will soon get here, so I can then bitch about it being too warm. Saturday is supposed to be ok but who knows. Time will tell. As I said before, it is Spring in Maine. The best means to ascertain what the weather is currently is to look out the window. Stay safe…… still no black flies.
