Thursday, where does the time go?
I decided that it was time for my second dose of the shingles vaccine. I am not a lover of needles and shots. So I put it off about as long as I could. I still need the flu and the Covid shots, they’ll have to wait a little. The first dose of the shingles gave me a reaction beyond a very sore arm. It was the second day after receiving the shot and I was still feeling lousy when I finally realized that the shot was what caused it. Well today as the nice young lady was about to plunge in the goody juice I was telling her this. Of course she says “oh with most people if you have a reaction to dose #1 you will have a worse one to dose #2.” I hear this as the goody juice burns into my arm. Now several hours and much exercise splitting wood later, my arm is sore. But then again so is my shoulders and back and both arms and my hands. I don’t think much really has anything to do with the shot, other than the sore arm injection site. Had the shingles, I would rather have vinyl siding, less maintenance.
Yesterday I went over to the neighbors and retrieved the last four or so tractor loads of big wood. Today while I was resting after getting my shot, I proceeded to get it all split and scabbed onto the main wood pile.

I am done adding to this pile. I had to start another one though, where I finished burning off what was there. That one is all hard wood that has been coming from trees blown down on Mud pond. Some more of the Mud pond wood is all I plan on continuing with this fall.
As I was working on the wood pile, I see a big mouse stick his nose out of the old part and start sniffing the new wood. His little nose was just a wiggling checking it all out. I view the wood piles as alternate housing for the rodents living on the hill. They have two choices about where to live. They can be house living and over winter in the sister-in-law’s shed or live like true rodents and live in my wood piles. I know from the amount of nests I find as I use the wood, that quite a few choose the wood piles. I can only imagine the tunnels they move around in throughout the pile. I could almost hear the mouse thinking that the wife better not find out about the new lodging possibilities or else he’ll have to move. I can only imagine the tenants I have living up there rent free.
The pond leaves are coming to an end, I think anyway. From the looks of things I will have something to do tomorrow.
The wind is supposed to be howling so we’ll see how that goes. I also wonder how the injection arm will like pulling leaves out of the pond. The trees are looking bare so this may be the last time. Who am I kidding, there will be more just hopefully not like this again. You got it time will tell.
In the studio I finished #30 for 2024.
This one was made from more orphan blocks that worked fine once I added the critters. The moose and the bear were already traced onto the heat-n-bond. I just ironed them onto fabric and stitched around them. The Corner Pop II and the Square 2 added the rest that I thought was needed. Number 31 will be a while, there are a lot of small pieces needed. Mostly four patch and flying geese. Carol said that is a good idea it slows me down a little.
Hopefully not feeling under the weather tomorrow, time will tell. I will attack the beach if possible and continue on #31. You all have a good weekend and stay safe. Enjoy.
