Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday again, was cold this morning. I don’t know how cold, but cold enough that the leaves on the beach that I did not get picked up yesterday were frozen in place. I did the best that I could but unfortunately the enjoyment of raking and transporting the 109 loads up back into the woods will soon be transferred to snow shoveling. Nothing in the forecast, but remember, before I can relocate snow, I get the enjoyment of the process of removing the loader bucket from the tractor and attaching the snowblower. Not really difficult in theory, only in application. The first sentence of the directions states you must be able to easily lift 50 pounds. Therein lies the problem, that may be doable on a good day not necessarily true every day. I can only hope that when needed to happen it will be a good day.

While I was raking the multitude of leaves from the beach yesterday I found something rather strange. Well I guess not strange really, I just never saw one washed up on the beach. It was either a girls bathing suit top or a bra. It was green but I guess that doesn’t matter. There were a lot of leaves and I kept a real sharp eye out but never saw the rest of the girl.

The most occurring item to wash up on the beach is balls. Tennis balls and all sorts of other dog chucking balls. I guess some of the Fido's around here are not real great at fetching. I usually give the good ones to my daughter for her dogs.

Make sure that you get out and see the huge moon, it’s almost full tonight and is bright. I guess the full moon being so close explains why the last couple nights I have been getting 3 second time lapse photos that looked liked like it was daytime. If it stays clear I’m anxious to see what tonight will bring.

Tonight at 7 PM

Here is 10 PM

11:00 PM.

It is amazing how much light is picked up in those 3 seconds.

The Blue Jays are such little pigs and bullies.

When they are around the other birds seem to be not so much. They seem to like the food I put out. This mix has quite a few more nuts than what I have used in the past. The other birds like it as well although the Cardinals have been missing the last few days. We have only seen the Bluebirds a few times so far this season. Lots of Chick-a-dees, Nuthatches, Sparrows, Titmouse and several types of woodpeckers. They are fun to watch as they fly around. If they would only refrain from bouncing off the windows. It doesn’t seem to bother them much but it leaves feathers on the window. I would think it would give them a head ache. Maybe it does, they usually fly away before I can ask them.

I found a cute little nest while working on the beach It was quite small and made of a fine fluffy material.

Still working on quilt #31 for 2024. I see a couple more days before completion of this one. This is one of the blocks from the center section of the quilt.

It is a 9” finished block with 99 pieces in it. I was kinda glad I only needed to make 16 of them for the center of the quilt. I’m now working on what I am putting around that. Still more geese and four patch but with a little twist. Hopefully it comes out ok. You got it, time will tell.

Until next time, stay safe and enjoy the moon.
