Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Not much going on around here. Today started out another wet rain/snowy day until cleared about noon. Wasn’t too bad after that though, still a bit chilly. As Carol told you, the ice is gone. I have not seen any fish yet, but there are several ducks out there fishing so I guess some still exist. Thankfully the ground is bare and hopefully will stay that way for a few months before we start the process all over again. More rain/snow etc. expected for Saturday and Sunday along with next Tuesday. Hopefully those storms will get the S word out of our forecasts. Who knows, time will tell.

As soon as the woods dry out a little I can start wasting my time picking up the sticks and debris left from the winter storms. Around here a winter isn’t needed to create a mess to clean up. Most all the trees around here are 50 to 75 years beyond their prime, so it really doesn’t take a lot of wind to bring down branches, occasionally bringing down whole trees.

I wonder if the water will come up much higher with any more spring rains.  We have a nice beach at this point and the water level in the crawl space is about 2” deep in the sump pump basin I installed last summer. That puts the water table 18” or so below my stone crawl space. Now I need to get underneath and get it piped out and some wiring changed so the pump is all automatic and will be ready when needed. Hopefully never. I kinda doubt that though.

The birds have been busy at the feeders, sometimes there has to be 25-30 flying around. Mama Cardinal stops by a lot lately.

The Blue Birds have been here all winter but now seems to be reduced in number to a single pair most of the time. They sure are pretty.

Will probably will stop feeding them before too long. The mess underneath the feeder takes a while to clean up and get the grass to grow again. Worth it to watch the birds though.

In the studio I have finished Kailey’s quilt, so my end of both the graduation quilts is complete. Here is a little peak at Kailey’s quilt blocks.

Hopefully the kids like them, Evan commented he uses his all the time.

Since completing Kailey’s I have been “cleaning” up my area. This basically consists of cutting up the rest of the pieces leftover after trimming a quilt after being quilted. I also have lots of pieces that are being cut into various sizes to make different sized units. So far I have been making mostly four patches and half square triangles. This time I have been concentrating on 4”, 3”, 2 1/2” and 2” finished units. No real idea what they will turn into but they always seem to get used up. It seems to make more sense than just making different sized squares, at least this way I’m accumulating lots of units all trimmed to size and ready to use.

Until next time, stay safe and enjoy the lovely weather, it is bound to get better, unless it gets worse. You got it time will tell.
