This and That

Carol here ~

I finished the binding on quilt #7 for 2024.

On Sunday while I was working on #8, Dan was out in the pond pulling weeds.

Dan's Rambings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening from the studio.

It is nice out but we are wiped. We went to Augusta to the Maine Quilt Show. There were quite a few people there and a wide selection of different quilts and wall hangings. Most were not of my tastes but I could still be impressed with the end results. I actually saw none that I needed to run home and see if I could replicate. Lots of circles and paper piecing that I have not developed a taste for.

Visitors

Carol here ~

I got some patio binding done yesterday. There was a lovely breeze and temp was in the low 80's.

The only issue I had was Dan's lilies ~

their sweet fragrant smell was giving me a headache!

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, it is quite a bit cooler out there this evening which is ok by me. It is also quite breezy as well. So I am in the studio.

We went for a ride today up to Rangeley to bring a small freezer to Erin. I had put it in the shed here to gain a little space in the freezer in the house. We could use it to be a little bigger so I bought an inexpensive one twice as big as Erin’s now new one. Did that confuse you at all? It did me. Anyway here is the mandatory picture from the Height of Land.

Summer

Carol here ~

There's been a whole lot of this going on during these hot summer days.

Great niece Annie is swimming like a fish and I don't think her brother Alex is far behind.  So fun to watch them and think back to when I was a kid and doing the same thing.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Out by the fire. One thing is for sure, I’m not sitting too close. The fire is certainly not needed for heat. Boy hasn’t it been hot, coupled with the humidity breathing can be a struggle. Thank goodness for the heat pump and the AC. It would be unbearable for this old curmudgeon without it.

I spent much of the day yesterday cleaning up brush around the area. Most of the time I was in under the trees so it wasn’t too bad. Today I opted to do errands because the forecast last night was that today was to be a rainy day. It was far from it. Carol commented, asking me if I could imagine doing construction in this heat. Thank goodness, I don’t remember working many days like these last few, when I worked for a living up in Rangeley.

That said, I did a plumbing job for a neighbor up the pond. I replaced his toilet for him, not a real big deal but doing that type of activity I consider work. The cutting and stacking of all the wood I have been accumulating is just something to do, not considered work. I guess it’s all in the state of the mind.

The Weekend

Carol here ~

What a gorgeous holiday weekend we had, couldn't have asked for better weather.  I remember past 4th of July's when we were waiting for the fireworks bundled up in winter jackets and wrapped in a blanket, sure not the case this year.

Dan's Ramblings

 Dan here ~

Was out by the fire as it was a very nice evening. I had my doubts but the wind calmed down quite nicely.

I find it very hard to believe that today was July 1. The season is flying by. We survived the violent storms that were predicted over the last few days. Most of them went around us except for the torrential rains. It makes it difficult to know if my plants need watering.

The big flower bed has filled in very well.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~ Thursday evening. It was a nice calm day today. I managed to burn off some of the wood I have been pulling off the pond. Unfor...
