Thursday evening. The wind she does like to blow. Lately the wind has been blowing quite steadily. I did see an eagle the other day, first one in a long time. I’m sure they hang out on the other side of the ridge where there is open water, but on this side fishing is still a little hard. I have been noticing more and more open water like areas on the pond. It’s almost like the pond is thinking about spring. I’m ready, anytime works for me.
The dirt road that we are forced to travel for about 1/2 mile to get to the house has become almost painful to drive down. At low speed you are forced to bounce up and down as each pothole is entered and exited. The truck dodges and weaves as it is thrown around trying to get down the road. If you speed up, it can get a little better as you then spend less time residing in each hole. This transfers the bouncing to more of a shuddering as you rattle along across the tops of the constant potholes, many of them contiguous with the one before it. Then there is always the possibility that you chanced going too fast, and bounce about out of control and hit a tree. If doing so on this Old County Road there is an excellent chance that the tree is dead and will break off upon impact and fall on top of you. Much like at the roulette wheel at the casino at the top of the hill, one takes ones chances driving down our dirt road.
The moon was quite bright last evening, this is the picture I captured leaning out the studio window.

On this one I made the same type of pop as before only smaller. I also created a pattern using other popped corners I placed in the centers of some of the 16-patch blocks. I thought this created a little movement by using the yellow. This creation process is much like I used a long time ago where I did not spend much time drawing but just making pieces and see what happens. These are intended as donation quilts. I don’t think any of them, yet, would be described as ugly. Maybe not your colors but I’m sure someone will appreciate them and hopefully the effort that went into them as well. I used the Corner Pop I and II on this top.
#17 is 85% complete. Same 4-patch units but this time I added some 5” finished quarter square triangles I found in my bins. You’ll have to wait until next time to see as I am still assembling and there is no where near enough evening left to complete it.
I have been thinking about an upcoming quilt top as I have been working along. That is to design a top around the backing pieces that get saved from when the new quilt is trimmed after coming off Lena the longarm. I am getting a rather large assortment of the remnants of recent quilts.
Some of the pieces are 3-5” wide and the length or width of the quilt. Usually there is a wider piece along what was the bottom as the quilt was mounted on the frame. Some of the earlier tops I trimmed the scrap into standard scrap size pieces. Then I had the idea of using them to make an edge quilt. I’m still mulling this idea over. I think it has merit as long as it doesn’t hurt my brain too much. These scrap quilts have been dulling my imagination a little. Less creative juices needed when creativity is limited to primarily sashing strips. As usual time will tell.
Enjoy your weekend, I have no idea what the weather will be. It is almost spring, the clocks get sprung ahead on Saturday night. It might rain, it might snow, the sun could shine or it could be windy as hell and cloudy. It’s Maine, this could easily occur all on the same day. Take what you get and deal with it. I will.
Remember wherever you go there you are, if you did not plan on being there, the damn wind probably blew you there. Enjoy it anyway.
