Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, no fire tonight, raining out. Had a nice one last night, not cold out and no bugs. The good fire evenings will be harder and harder to come by as time goes on. Not much I can do about it, I’m still in denial that fall is here already. The leaves are changing fast and I’m seeing some of the oaks turning brown already. Oh boy, I’ll have something to do most days real quick besides sewing. Truth be told, I would prefer to sew most days. It still wears me out but I’m already inside where naps are taken. I wonder what age I was when I realized that naps were an OK thing. I predict some in the future as autumn takes its annual dump on us.

Lotsa Quilts ~ Part 3

Carol here ~

As I was sorting through all the quilts that had been packaged up from our quilt shop days I came across two door type wallhangings that our friend, former neighbor and quilt shop helper Martha had pieced. I asked her if she would like them, she said yes, so I headed south for a visit and to give them to her.

I didn't expect to receive something too! Martha knits the best dish cloths, I love them.

Thanks Martha!

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Had a fire tonight as it was a pleasant evening sitting out by the fire. Tonight's sunset was not overly great but I do think it tried.

Many of you know by now I prefer the shot after sunset better. I don’t really know why.

Lotsa Quilts ~ Part 2

Carol here ~

Are you ready to view the next batch of quilts? All of the following are quilted by me using Lena Longarm's computer system as opposed to last week's where most of them were free motion custom quilted by me.  Free motion quilting allows for intricate and creative stitching by the quilter. I always tell people that I use the needle like a pencil and create from there.

I think we are getting to the end of the large quilts, well, except for one that I know of that hasn't been found yet. Hopefully it will turn up eventually.

I am saving all the "Show Quilts" until the end.  They are all here in the house so no musty smells but they should be periodically opened up and refolded.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Nice day today, a little breezy here today, calming down nicely now. I may be forced to have a fire. Only problem is, is that I soaked the fire pit so I could empty the ashes. In order to have a fire it would require me to walk the couple hundred yards up to the shed and back where the wheelbarrow is. I keep threatening that I will buy another to have one up there and one down here. Sad to say I don’t really have room for a wheelbarrow to be kept down by the house. I suppose walking back and forth all the time will keep me thin. It gets dark so early now that by the time I finish writing this it will be dark anyway, so the heck with a fire.

Lotsa Quilts

Carol here ~

I know Dan has mentioned that our Climate Controlled Storage Shed where we had all our quilts was not so climate controlled. It was starting to smell musty which means some of our quilts were also smelling musty. That is when Dan moved them all to our storage shed up on the hill.

I decided it was time to sort through, wash, organize, photograph and document the size and type of batting used for each quilt. Luckily, I was pretty good at keeping records back in the day ~ batting used, thread color, quilting pattern, hours spent quilting, etc.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening after a nice day. Quite breezy here on the pond. Carol had set some quilts and wall hangings etc. out on the chairs out front to air out. She is doing this as we begin to go through all the quilts etc. that were in “climate controlled” storage, Except as we mentioned before, it may not have gone below freezing but moisture levels were way too high. A nuisance but hopefully all the items can be salvaged without too much effort. You got it, time will tell.

Earlier this week as I was cleaning up around where the now gone motorcycle trailer used to be, I found this little guy. A spotted salamander.

He was just there doing whatever it is the salamanders do. I covered it up with the same clump of pine needles and let it be. I checked the next day and Spotty had moved on.

Another Bag

Carol here ~

Happy September!  What a beauteous day it was yesterday!

Dan and I went out in the kayaks. It's good to know he hasn't lost his Master Turtle Plucker skills.  He reached in and caught this guy,

while he was showing it to me he saw another so reached in and grabbed him too.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~ Thursday evening by the fire. Pretty evening albeit a bit chilly.  I suppose that is to be expected this time of year. That doe...
