In the studio. I could have been by the fire, I was last night, tonight was warm enough but it had been raining off and on so I opted to stay inside and continue working on #12 for 2024.
Much of my time has still been spent cleaning up this past winter’s mess. There is still a great deal more available if I am so inclined. I was reminded last night how fast I can burn the wood on a nice calm evening.

I was on the way back, headed home with a load of wood I had gathered off the side of Old County Road, and noticed a neighbor out by the road trying to shovel back the gravel that the snow plow guy had pushed up against his stone wall. I told him let me take the truck home and I’ll bring the tractor back and pull much of it back for you.
I think it’s always a good idea to help out the neighbors when you can.
Over last two days I have emptied about 85 of the 100 sand bags I had filled. I wheeled them out to the driveway and dumped them into the bucket of the tractor and took them up the driveway and dumped the gravel up there with the rest of the driveway gravel. I think it was a toss up which was more of a pain, filling or emptying them. Now I need to hang them to dry and store for another year to hopefully never be filled again.
The wood pile is growing and burning will be required to enable much more than a couple more cords to find their place into the wood pile.

I have ordered a new planter to replace the wood one I made last year, hopefully this one lasts longer. Now to figure out what to plant in it. I just don’t have the desire like I used to. I need to find something different to plant in front of the house on the pond side.
The moles are way too prevalent in the winter and they decimated my bulb flowers. This means my lilies took a hit. After seeing pieces of lily bulbs left behind by the moles, I thought my big white one was toast. Fortunately, today I noticed two shoots pushing out of the ground so it should survive to bloom another year. It was beautiful with more that a dozen blossoms last year. Unfortunately two other lilies appear to not be showing any signs of new growth. I’ll need to either plant annuals there or non-bulb perennials.
I have concluded I have lost my mind. The other day I was thinking I needed to plant a few of the tomatoes seeds I saved from the cherry tomatoes Carol likes. They are called Candyland. I picked up the container in the shed and said to myself, all I need now is find the potting soil. Well, today I found a pot and the seed starting soil, but do you think I could find the seeds again? No way, I searched all over in the shed. I can’t find them anywhere. I guess I will need to look elsewhere to try and find some seed. It’s getting late to grow tomatoes from seed though, hopefully I can find something at a nursery somewhere local. I would have planted mine if I hadn’t lost them.
In the studio, Carol showed you some of #11 for 2024 in her blog. Here is the whole of it.

Carol actually had it quilted before I revealed it here. #11 has centered around quite a few combination units leftover from a quilt Carol made. I trimmed them to be 2-1/2” finished units and used them to get these 7-1/2” finished nine patch blocks. I used two different corner stones for this top, the yellow were to grab your attention and the lavender to hide in the background.
#12 is about 75% created and will be slightly different than those of the past. So far over 1500 pieces have been sewn together and I have many more to sew before I am done.
I think I’ll get back to work, so until next time, stay safe.
