Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

In the studio, it was too windy out… now it is just too cold.

I sure hope it warms up before too long or at least is calm during the day so I can get back to burning up the mess everywhere. I keep cleaning it up, no end in sight.

This afternoon after I had split and stacked a couple of tractor buckets of big wood from the neighbor’s, and was standing there looking at the ever growing wood pile, I said to myself, “what are you going to do with all this wood?” I knew it was me because I recognized my voice. There was no answer so I must still be trying to figure it out.

Like I said a minute ago, the weather needs to warm up so I can start burning some of it. I may even try cooking on the grill that came with the fireplace. Seems like a novel idea. I have a griddle as well, but don’t see that getting used anytime soon either.

This morning looking out the window of the studio towards Mud pond, I saw something on a log over in front of the camping area next door. I grabbed a pair of binoculars and sure enough there were several good sized turtles sitting there sunning themselves.

I’m kinda thinking that at least one kayak needs to find it’s way from the shed down to the pond. There has got to be times the wind isn’t blowing. There are things around the pond that require some looking at. As well as new trees laying in the pond from this winter’s storms there may also be some turtles that require looking at. Where to store the kayaks when not using them becomes the issue. Does no beach mean no kayaks this summer? Is the high water the new normal? So many questions, so few answers. I guess you know my response, time will tell. Some sort of dock or kayak rack may need to be devised. Again, time will tell.

In the studio I am working on #11 for 2024. The blocks are complete and the sashing strips are almost complete as well. Hopefully, assembly will start tonight. Working with 7-1/2” finished blocks this time. The blocks are some sort of simplex star, I say some sort because the idea came from finding a stack of 2-1/2” finished combination units from something Carol made quite a while ago. I also found some combination units that were used to demonstrate trimming with the Tucker Trimmer. These were used to get my blocks. Then, of course I had to do something with the sashing and corner stones. Blocks are like this.

The reveal on the rest will have to wait until next time because there is no way I will complete assembly tonight.

Hopefully the pond will continue to evaporate because that is the only way the pond will recede so we can find the beach. I have still not seen any fish etc. in Green pond. The clear, shallow water where the beach should be affords a clear view out 40 - 50 feet out from the retaining wall into the pond. Maybe the ducks ate them all. You got it time will tell.

Weather permitting I will continue puttering and sewing. Until next time stay safe and enjoy. Real Spring will come, I hope.
