We had company on Saturday! Our daughter Erin and grands Evan and Parker came to visit. I hadn’t seen Parker since summer and had only seen Erin and Evan briefly a couple times when they stopped in to drop something off or pick something up.
They had all been COVID tested earlier in the week and knew they were negative, plus school had been remote all week so they figured it would be pretty safe for them to visit at this time.
The boys were having Spritz cookie cravings ~ Bumpa Dan’s Spritz cookies, that is.
If you have never had Spritz Cookies, the doughs are high in shortening or butter and must be pliable. (plus sugar, flour, eggs & salt ~ super healthy!) It is then placed in the cookie press and forced through a plate (shape) onto a cookie sheet. It requires just the right amount of finesse.
Bumpa is the Spritz Cookie Extraordinaire in our family. He uses this cookie press that belonged to his mom.
When we lived in Rangeley the boys lived only one street away so were at the house a lot especially during cookie baking times. They were the official testers.
The recipe we use comes from this book
I received our first copy as a wedding shower gift ~ we wore that one out as it is our “go to” cookie book and has lots of great recipes in it. This is #2. I just checked Amazon and it is still available (no affiliation). hmmm, I always thought cookie had an ie on the end, not a y.
So, Evan got the official Spritz making instructions from Bumpa and the aroma of cookies was soon wafting through the air.
Ready for the oven
They got a bit creative with their colors and thankfully took most of them home.
We had a great visit, they even let me take this photo of them before they headed home!
