Thursday has arrived. We had company today, Vanessa and her kids came for a visit. The kids went for rides in the old kayaks, I’m pretty sure that neither one fell in. After a nice chance to sit and enjoy the beautiful day we were glad to be under the awning as the sky opened up and it poured. It rained for quite a while. Then it cleared off and was lovely again. I think tomorrow is supposed to rain. I will probably go to Portland to pick up my new glasses. I am in hopes they will make a big difference. I have never thought my current pair fit and therefore can never seem to see what I want to. Time will tell.
My planters are doing as well as can be expected. It has been hard to tell what needs to get a drink what with all the rain. Almost all my planters have to deal with the wind that is usually blowing down one pond or the other as well. Here’s a couple photos of their progress.

I have a couple of my short hybrid lilies in bloom. My big one is sporting a large number of potential blossoms.
In Rangeley I seldom would get to see the blossoms as the deer would eat them. It could happen here as well. At about 11:30 the other night I spotted one walking along the shoreline. I had them in the feeders last fall so who knows. It is seldom that I don’t see deer on the way out to the main road from the house. Where are the coyotes when you need them. I used to hear them out hunting while I set by the fire in the evenings. I haven’t had too many fires this year for some reason. Kinda waiting for it to warm up a little, I guess.
I would have to restock the wood box down at the fireplace with the truck now as the tractor has been taken to the shop. Pain in the butt, something electrical is shorting and causing the glow plugs to stay on and drain the battery. This is the second time I’ve had it in for this and they made an expensive service call early winter that did nothing to solve the problem. Oh well, time will tell.
I have decided to try some copper magnetic therapy for my wrists and finger pain. Most of the pain is from old injuries. Who knew that the stupid one does in ones youth will haunt you as you age. I am noticing a difference in pain levels. Most of what I am seeing is some chronic pain is lessoned but acute pain is sharpened. We’ll see, they weren’t cheap so I’ll give them a decent shot. I did find the swelling at the base of my thumb went down, I haven’t seen that often. It comes back, seemingly dependent on how much I overuse my hands. I’m sure piecing quilts and splitting wood aren’t excessive exercise for my hands. Never used to be.
In the studio I finished the quilt I talked about last time, 2026-30. I did not think that the words stood out as well as I had hoped.
It was a fun project, I like making the stacked squares like I used here. The idea will be tried again as I have quite a few letter possibilities left with the fabric I bought.
Also completed #31 since we last visited. In this one I found a lot of 6” finished blocks I had made back at the beginning of the year as I had worked on my first of year cleanup process. I keep going back to trying to clean up but I keep getting torn away to chase an idea. Oh well, I have burned quite a few empty fabric bolt cardboard pieces. They work ok as fire starters. Who am I kidding, I use my old plumbing torch to start my fires, I usually can get most anything burning. I digress, I took those 6” blocks and framed them with two different colors to become 8” blocks. There are a lot fewer 8” blocks needed in my layouts than there are 6” ones. I then used an off white for sashing and red and blue in my Corner Pop II stars. Bright and colorful.
Hopefully #32 will be complete before Saturday, I teach again then and the class will be on the Diamond Rect tool. I had quite a few of them in my toy bin of completed units and came up with an interesting block and border treatment. Most of you won’t get to see it until next week. Some of you may see it on one of the Facebook quilting pages I belong too, the rest of you will need to just be patient.
The weather doesn’t look too promising for the weekend with possible damaging wind and hail on Friday. Time will tell. The way the wind blows around here I’d not be surprised to someday be rambling from the land of Oz. Stay safe and enjoy.
