You guessed it, Thursday. The sun shines, it is windy and somewhat chilly. I’m ready for repeated days of spring weather, staying well above freezing EVERY night. Hopefully soon.
Not too much happening here on the pond. It’s been too windy to kayak. I did push the float out into the pond. The water is still pretty cold, I have no problem when I cool off my hardboiled eggs in the morning. The water out of the tap is plenty cold. That’s the thing about drawing your water out of the pond, you notice the change in the water temperature. Before too long we will begin to use less hot water in the shower as the pond warms up. I may even have to add ice cubes to help cool my eggs. Who ever imagined that such simple things become so noticeable as we age. Much like getting down on the floor to do something and then deciding there is a need to get back up again. Who would have thought that was one of those things I would now notice. I’m banking on the water staying cold enough for my eggs for a while. The need for ice cubes requires the need to get the ice machine out and make ice more often. I will say, my day to day difficulties and duties have changed a little over the last 40 years. Perhaps a good thing, perhaps not.

A lot of the time it’s been too windy for a fire outside. I have managed to burn off some cleanup debris, but could easily find more. Usually too windy and the surrounding area is way too dry still. I guess I have no need to prep a lot of wood for the fire just yet. I still have 2-3 cord up on the hill.
The shed needs to be gone through and organized and hopefully get the showcase out. I’m taking it up to the quilt shop where I teach, then we both can use it for quilted for sale items. I have kinda taken over her class room section of the store with my quilts hanging on the walls. The owner was calling it Dan’s wall except I’ve used most of the walls. Wait until she sees how much room the showcase takes up. Taking it up to the quilt shop also creates more room in the shed. Probably a place for more quilts. Really need to find a venue to get rid of some. Time will tell. The next class I teach is a week from this Saturday so I have the week off. The next tool will be the Square Squared.
Speaking of the Square Squared as you saw last time with the rejected version of #23 for 2026, I used a lot of square in square blocks along with Diamond Rects in that one. I have remade the 42 blocks and now the sashing strip gets the look it deserved in the newer layout. This was a fun sashing and I can see myself doing this again.

In #24 for 2026 I used the rejected 42 blocks from #23. The lavender sashing strips along with the purple star pops hid the blocks quite nicely and allowed the unique sashing to shine through.
I am still trying to clean up a couple bins along with my work area. The process takes longer when pieces and shapes are made instead of just cutting the scrap into squares and putting them into bins. A lot of what I have using the scrap for is making square in square blocks. I have quite a few accumulating in the bin now. If I follow in the direction I’m leaning I’ll only need 180 of them as 3” finished blocks. We’ll see, time will tell.
The was a little color as the sun set this evening.
I still rather enjoy my 10:30 PM shot better.
Stay safe and enjoy the spring until next time. Still no black flies.
