Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Dang it’s been cold. The older I get the less I like it. Carol’s car doesn’t like it as well. Doesn’t like to start when it is cold. The dealer says the battery is fine, car just don’t like the cold. The only real issue with that is that means I have to go out and jump it to get it running. Good thing my truck starts. Next week is supposed to be warmer. 40’s would be nice, melt the snow off the blacktop although they did sand it today. The only trouble with that, is that when you walk on the sanded areas, you track the sand inside. Winter problems. It seems that the sand that gets tracked in during winter is different. It must be the salt mixed in.

I survived my day last Saturday of demoing Studio 180 Tools at the local quilt shop for locals day. The people that stopped by enjoyed hearing about the Studio 180 Design tools and what I do with them. I just realized I failed to even get a picture of the two quilts I had hanging on the wall showing what I am doing with the tools. Hopefully classes will follow when their shipment of tools arrive. Will probably start with a basic Tucker Trimmer class with half squares triangles, quarter square triangles and combination units. The are several things we can do with them. You got it, time will tell.

We got snow over the weekend just like we expected, a lot of snow. It took three attempts over the duration of the storm to relocate it all. There is still a little left to move, but we may have more arriving this weekend. I guess it can either wait and be moved then, or else it will melt in the spring. The tractor is still giving me issues. It would not start on Sunday, the battery was completely dead. I tried bringing it in and charging it. No luck, I went into South Paris and bought a new one to fit. Worked well, except the glow plug light issue must have drained the battery again as I had to jump tractor again on Monday. Really starting to annoy me.

In the studio I have been still playing and consuming fabric. Lots of different sized four patches have been made along with many other units as well. I made #7 for 2026 out of the pile of 4” finished four patches I made. When I couple them with squares of fabric I get blocks the same as the last few tops only using smaller blocks. 4” finished instead of 6”. I took these 8” blocks and framed them and trimmed them to 10” finished blocks. I used six different fabrics to get my frames for my 30 blocks needed. This allowed me to get a diagonal color layout of the frames.

2026-7

I was pleased with the outcome. I have moved on to #8 which will be made from more of the 4” smaller units grouped as before. The sashing stars will be different than this one but don’t know what yet.

Enjoy your weekend. I’ll end with a shot out my window at 10:00 this evening.

Stay safe.
