Thursday evening, where does the time go. I know it must go somewhere as it is mid-July and almost Maine Quilt Show time. (July 24-26) That means summer is half over, a sad thought.
Carol has had a couple tomatoes but not many and I picked her a couple of cucumbers today.
Earlier I told you about the frog that jumped out at me when I was watering. I haven’t seen it lately but saw this little green guy instead.
I guess being green makes sense if you hang out in the bushes. I could hardly see this little guy.
I was out by the fire earlier and was still considering going back out except I keep hearing downpours of rain on the studio roof. I am quite realistically in the studio for the evening. I did get the “sunset from the studio window “ picture for you to enjoy.
I also stopped at Verrill's Vegetable stand and picked up our first string beans for the year. The beans went quite well with the marinated pork tenderloin I threw on the grill. The summer vegetable season helps with meal planning, I seldom get too fancy in meal preparation. Meals usually follow predictable recipes with slight variations depending on what’s on hand. Isn’t that what we all do? I tend to use the grill a lot this time of year.
In the studio I am working on quilt #19 for 2025. It’s not quite done. I still need to finish framing a couple blocks then it will be time for assembly. This top is being made by framing a 9” finished V-block star to get a 12” finished block. Each of the blocks has a Square squared block in the center. The makeup squares along with the corner blocks of the 9” V-block star are all cut from the same diagonal striped fabric.
I liked the effect of the stripes and I’m sure will use it again.
I had to do some hand sewing the other night, I had been noticing that the very center area of my pincushion was getting frayed and had developed a hole. I tried to ignore it and pretend I didn’t really see the hole. But, considering the vast number of times, in the course of a day, pins are inserted and removed from that pincushion it has held up quite well. I resolved the problem with a patch before too many innards became outards.
It is working great and will do so until it doesn’t, then something else will be done.
The weekend looks to be summer. It may be good, it may rain, it may be calm, it may be windy. It may be hot, it may be not. Whatever it is, rest assured, if you wait 10 minutes it will change.
Maybe we’ll see you at the Quilt Show in Augusta next week. Stay safe.
