Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, too windy with threats of severe weather for a fire.

I’ll see what I can write then go back to sewing. It doesn’t seem like much has happened around here this week. Neighbor had a tree cut down. That was about all the excitement for that day.

With Evan’s assistance we managed to get the display case removed from storage and relocated to the shed here.

That means we are no longer paying storage unit fees. At one time we had “stuff” in three different storage facilities. That does not mean that we have gotten rid of all unwanted items by any stretch. It only means that they are all in the storage building. Hopefully, marketplace will help get rid of some “stuff”. I have relocated a few items that way. With a little luck more items will disappear to create a little space in the shed. There is still a lot of quilt shop related items that could use a new home. Lord knows I’ll never live long enough to use it all.

My many planters are doing their best with the limited sunshine and irregular watering they are receiving.

It’s hard to tell how much rain they received and how much I need to give them. The cucumbers are almost tall enough to begin reaching out for support.

The peas are as well. These three little tomatoes are some I found in the planter this spring and brought in and nurtured and reset them in this new planter. They seem to be doing ok.

I must say that my gardening today is different than days of old. I often wish I had my old gardens with today’s spare time. Here is a shot of my old gardens.

There were always things I wanted to do but never had the time. I drove by a fenced in garden the other day that was fully overgrown and I almost stopped to see if I could utilize the space. I don’t remember where it was and perhaps that is best.

My big lily has more stocks this season, at one count I counted 60 buds between them all. Hopefully all continues until blooming time.

Here is a foxglove that must have survived from Rangeley ~ growing from the base of the lily.

In the studio I am still playing making units and playing with ideas. As I said last time, #18 is following the Rule of 72 theme with framed blocks. I’m thinking 4”, 6”, 8” and 12” this time for finished block sizes. The direction I’m sorta headed in will take a while. The good thing is a lot of scraps and pieces are being consumed.

As I write that I have to chuckle to myself about the last sentence. I’m pleased to be using lots of pieces. This is a different picture showing what is behind the display case I showed you earlier in this writing

Why I chuckled, I should be making quilts like those I see on my Facebook pages, quilts made from 8” and 10” squares of fabric. I could make 6-8 of them a week, that would use up some fabric. Oh well, not my thing I guess.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe, hopefully we get a good weekend. I have not looked at what is expected. Time will tell.

This is the sunset picture tonight. I could have had a fire.

  1. Dan - One of my favorite parts of visiting the shop in Rangeley through the years was the chance to see what botanical treasures you had found to plant in your gardens, which were always so beautifully tended. And I'm jealous that you seem to have a little quilt shop tucked away in your storage building!
