Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. A beautiful day, not as warm as yesterday but at least not as windy.

Yesterday I was busy. I decided it was time to remove the fabric from storage and place it into storage in our shed. Maybe a wider variety of fabrics will get used. I will have less a need to keep so much underfoot. Consolidation and best use of space. I’ll be honest, downsizing sucks. I would think I’m used to it by now after all I’ve gotten rid of. It becomes harder as the last of the “valuable crap” gets gone through and one tries to see how it can sell. Most of the “crap” that’s left is valued like quilts. It’s stuff you would think had value but good luck finding the other person who thinks so too. My stash looks happy closer to home so hopefully that is a good thing.

Several things have fallen into the category of seeing things ‘cause my eyes were open. This was spotted growing over the access to the septic tank.

A pretty spring flower. Here is another I spied up by the shed.

I also spied a hen turkey hightailing it from below the shed on Tuesday. Upon inspection after she left I see what see left behind. A clutch of seven eggs.

She had placed them in the sun so if she got scared off they might be ok and stay warm. I did not see her again that day. Today she was on her nest all day. She blends in very well.

I will wait and see if any young walk away from the nest. I doubt I’ll see the exit but should see remains.

I did not get pictures but I saw evidence where possibly three more big (probably snapping) turtles entered Green Pond. We still have not seen any of them in the pond, but I’m sure they are out there.

We did see that a good sized section of floating dock showed up on the far end of beach yesterday afternoon. I don’t know how Carol missed it floating down the pond but she did. I contacted Russ up the pond and he said he would collect it in the morning. Sure enough, he hooked on and hauled it home.

In the studio I am working on what will be #15 for 2025. I haven’t decided if the concept will work or not ~ I’m pretty sure it will. The idea came from 6 x 8 = 48, 8 x 6 = 48. This lead to 9 x 8 = 72 and 12 x 6 = 72. I’ll see where this leads. I’ve been making lots of 8” blocks and many more 6” blocks. Hopefully by next week I’ll know if my idea works.

Rainy day tomorrow, that means sew day or errands. Maybe both, Time will tell.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
