This and That

Carol here ~

Erin and Parker went to the Portland Symphony on Sunday afternoon so we met up with them in Auburn for supper as they were headed home.  We decided this was only the second time we've seen each other since Christmas ~ really?  They are so busy.

Lena and I quilted up both the graduation quilts, will get the bindings on in the next few days. I'm happy with how they came out, hope the kids will like them.  I used a neutral-ish fabric for the backing so they will be able to turn the quilt over if they want.

I also got the quilting done on 2024-31.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. A beautiful day and evening spent picking up and burning sticks. Last winter is slowly getting cleaned up.

Here is a three second time lapse of tonight’s up the pond at 8 o’clock view.

Knick Knacks

Carol here ~

My grandmother and mother had lots of knick knacks ~ here, there and everywhere around the camp/house.  My mother had them over the kitchen cupboards

and also on shelves that were above the three picture windows that looked out over the pond.

I am not a knick knack person, however, she had several cut glass pieces that I really liked so when we remodeled I had the carpenter put one shelf back over one of the picture windows so I would be able to display them.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, too windy for a fire.

I have been wasting, I mean spending my time picking up sticks and burning them in the fire pit. I currently have four 55 gallon drums of them ready to burn. They burn quickly so I can’t see just leaving them on the ground in piles to rot for the next 10 to 20 years or more.

In chemistry class we learned the burning was called rapid oxidation. There is an endless supply of available clean up, but not as easily obtained after the leaves and bugs pop out. I like to play while the window is open, so to speak. When the window closes because the bugs get too bad or it gets too hot out, that is why there is air conditioning in the studio.

Unless I can find a market for some of the fire wood I have I don’t know how many more places I can find to make my round wood stacks. I’m eyeballing some at the neighbors that could be cut/split and stacked and left right there for them. The fun part done, let them burn it. It seems like it ought to work. You may remember my current pile from last fall.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Tonights evening photo.

After the ground turning white again, I hope that the bare ground evolving again, is becoming the new normal for at least the next several months. Today was a beautiful day while looking out the window, unfortunately the outside temperature was colder than it appeared from the window.

The beach received the second raking along the edge. That is the part where we receive all the detritus that Mother Nature and her minions throw into the pond. Small criticism, if your dog really doesn’t want to go get the ball, don’t throw it in the water for him. Then I don’t have to pull it out and throw it in the trash.

Dan got the beach raked up the other day. We have a pretty good sized beach for this time of year.  We'll see what happens when we get the spring rains.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. Not much going on around here. Today started out another wet rain/snowy day until cleared about noon. Wasn’t too bad after that though, still a bit chilly. As Carol told you, the ice is gone. I have not seen any fish yet, but there are several ducks out there fishing so I guess some still exist. Thankfully the ground is bare and hopefully will stay that way for a few months before we start the process all over again. More rain/snow etc. expected for Saturday and Sunday along with next Tuesday. Hopefully those storms will get the S word out of our forecasts. Who knows, time will tell.

Ice Out

Carol here ~

Good Morning and Happy April!

The ice is just about gone.  What is left was blown down to our end yesterday as the wind blew all day.

I'm always surprised the first couple of mornings when I open the shades after ice out to see water.

Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~ Thursday evening. Nice day today, a little breezy here today, calming down nicely now. I may be forced to have a fire. Only pr...
