Carol here ~
We had planned to meet up with daughters Vanessa and Erin and grands Kailey and Jakob on Saturday for some snowshoeing. We were going to meet in Farmington ~ Erin would be coming down from Rangeley, Vanessa and kids from Readfield and us from Oxford ~ all about equal distance to Farmington.Erin ended up not being able to participate because of a sinus infection so Plan B was implemented.
We met Vanessa and the kids in West Auburn at the Lake Auburn Community Center and snowshoed the Merrick Trail which goes down to Lake Auburn.
We are very familiar with the area as I grew up on the nearby Perkins Ridge Road and Dan grew up 2-3 miles away on Summer St.
The Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers groom and maintain these Lake Auburn area trails for not just snowmobiling, but also for skiing, walking, snow shoeing, sledding, horseback riding, skijoring and now biking with fat tires.
This looks like it could be the original sign! |
FUN FACT: My dad, Stan Coolidge, and a handful of other local snowmobilers founded the Perkins Ridge Sno-Travelers in 1968.
It was a beautiful day and it was great to safely see the kids outside in the fresh air.
