We had lousy weather over the weekend so did some cleaning in our quilting loft and thought I would give you a more thorough tour of it while it was fairly clean! You got a sneak peak in our first blog post when I showed the remodel here at the pond. Click here if you missed it.
My parents used the loft as a den. The back half of the house was floored over with the front half open to the living area downstairs. It looked like this.
So, we floored over half of the open front, built a wall to the right of the windows and left the rest still open to below.
This house has only one bedroom. My parents used the den as a bedroom when needed. We knew we would have no room for a bed or even a pull out couch so we had the carpenter install Murphy Beds behind the design walls.
Here is our view of Green Pond out the front windows.
We knew storage would be an issue so we tried to use dressers with drawers along with custom built storage cupboards and drawers under the knee walls.
This dresser is also our ironing station.
Our first set of cupboards is home to bedding etc for the Murphy beds.
The second set of cupboards is storage for batting.
The second three are an assortment of fabric, batting scraps and leftover notions from when we had the shop.
Under the back side of the longarm are all our Scrap Saver cuts.
Then we have Lena Longarm with plastic storage bins holding mostly longarm threads. I don’t really like the looks of the plastic bins but they serve their purpose.
Under the window is this thread cabinet that belonged to Dan's mom. His dad got it for her from a mill in Lewiston, ME. I use it for longarm needles, screwdrivers etc.
Well, there you have it ~ how to cram a lot of stuff into a small space! Hope this helps some of you that are trying to make the best out of a small work space.
