Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Must be Thursday again. I swear it comes faster every week, must be why the year went by so fast. As good as excuse as any I have come up with yet. If I come up with a better one I’ll let you know. Again, like usual, not much happening here. The neighbor, who I told you earlier had drained down for the season, has now had his power disconnected and the wires rolled up and placed by his camp.  I guess he won’t be back much for a while.

This is what I awoke to recently which helped to raise the beach load count which is currently at 61.

It seems that much of my time these days are either raking them or blowing them or in some way relocating them. Still hoping for a while before I need to begin relocating snow.

Six or so camps from us around the pond there is action going on. There is a camp there that has been abandoned at least 40 years. I have no idea the integrity of the building and I have no idea what the intent is of whoever is over there working. Whether the idea is to rebuild, replace or even relocate the camp, I have no idea. Time will tell. Tuesday we spotted activity happening over there. I became intrigued and set and watched as this gigantic crane went up through the trees. If you are wondering why I just set and watched, let me remind you of the fifth sentence of this ramble. Anyway, eventually the crane was extended up above the tree line.

As I watched, I could see a dude in an orange vest rise up in a harness hanging from a ball dangling from the crane. The dude would rise up and attach the cable about half way up a tree.

The dude would get lowered down, then the chainsaws would fire up and the tree would start moving as the crane operator would maneuver the end so he could lay the tree on the ground. Some times some wiggling around was required before the tree would lie down. They cut a plethora of trees down that way, kinda a cool way to be able to do it. Bet it wasn’t cheap.

In the studio I have made a great many different blocks using up scraps. I have decided on a direction for quilt #51 for 2026. There is a whole lot of time still needed before I begin to see much happening as far as tying things together. Here is one of the blocks.

I am not yet at the half way mark of the 20 needed. Soon I hope, you guessed it. Time will tell.

The weather for the next several days is calling for wet and cooler weather. We’ll see, my driveway still has not had a real good test.

Stay safe, stay dry and remember if in the woods wear orange, it’s the fashion for hunting season.
