Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

You guessed it, it’s Thursday.  I hope you are all surviving the heat, cause damn it’s been hot. I do not like the heat. If I have something that needs to get done, I’ll do it, but I’ll not like it and these days I notice I crash hard when the project is complete. Never used to be like that. There must be less oxygen in the air today than there used to be or something.

I did manage to see this as I was moving wood with my eyes open. My phone called it Prince’s pine.

It looks like a waxy flower. I did not handle it, but it looks like a single flower of my Mothers Hoya Lacunosa plant. It stank, I did not notice the Prince’s pine smelling. As kids we always called it Mom’s hold-your-k-nose-a plant. I managed to keep it alive for several years after I inherited it.

I have been reminded of what many of you probably have already learned. The AI on your phone for identifying things is not always correct. I took this picture of some sort of fungal spore discharge system and the AI identified it as a badger or similar mammal.

I think I can say that the AI was wrong.

I am apt to watch a lot of reels as I sew. It helps drown out the ringing and noises in my head. (I usually call them Timmy and Cindy) It used to be that you saw interesting videos. Today most of what you see is AI generated for entertainment purposes. The fun part now becomes what can you see that the AI goofed on. I watched a reel on a girl sitting on the toilet with her pants around her ankles and a squirrel comes in through the window and scares her. At first glance it’s funny, it could happen, if window was open and no screens a squirrel could come in the bathroom. Closer look, yes her pants are around her ankles but why is she sitting on the toilet seat cover? Weird way to use the toilet. I guess the reels are like most things today…. they are fake, sad that very little we see or hear today is real.

That said I have finished quilt #36 for 2026.

With this one I again followed the same process of using 6” four patches and a 2” sashing. Pops this time were done with Corner Pop II first on one side popping at 4 the on both sides at 2. This gave me a V-block type star at the corner stone with one side an accent star point. I like this effect and I thought it made the V-block stars pop out.

The weather looks to be more hot and sunny. Oh boy. Stay cool and stay hydrated but maybe avoid that water bottle that’s been in the car for two weeks.
