Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening. It has been a cold, wet, rainy day. However, right now it is beautiful out and I am waiting to see what (if anything) we get for color in tonight’s sunset. The last two nights have been phenomenal. Time will tell. Here is two nights ago

Here is last night.

6/17

It rained very hard today. I hope that the driveway survived the storm. I guess I’ll wait and look tomorrow. Something to look forward to.

I should’t need to water the plants tomorrow anyway. They appear to be taking hold, I am still waiting on a couple “weeds” coming up. They are the tomatoes I never can find at the nurseries around here, the ones Carol likes. Really tiny and sweet. I even ordered plants from California one year, they worked out fine. I have been getting “weeds” since. Maybe if I get tomatoes from them this year, I’ll save some seeds. We’ll see.

We get our water from the pond and then haul our drinking and cooking water from the local Public Safety Building from the faucet they provide for residents. When filling my gallon jugs I had my eyes open and saw this little gray tree frog.

I hope that no one steps on him. I just took his picture and let him be.

I found another neighbor that has an abundance of old wood lying around. After receiving permission I set in with my splitter and began cleaning up the eyesore. The wood is mostly pine and is quite wet, I found that once it arrives over at my yard and gets stacked it dries out quite quickly in the sun. With luck, come fall I will be loading it in the truck and hauling it to the other neighbor and selling it to him. Could work out quite well.

In the studio I was spending my time eliminating scraps and making blocks, mostly square in square blocks.

That got me off on a tangent to see if an idea I had in my head might work. In one of the quilts I showed you last time, #29 for 2026, I had used blocks with letters to spell Welcome Home. I thought I would try that again only using the letters as the centers of 6” blocks.

The quilt is still a work in progress so you don’t get to see it until next time, assuming I get it done. The blocks are done and I am assembling the top now. I am finding that the letter blocks don’t stand out as much as I had hoped. I guess more distinct colors surrounding them next time. Maybe I’ll call this top “Learning Curve". I’ll try something a little different next time. Oh well, I still have a few ideas and a little fabric left we’ll have to see what happens.

By the time the color would have arrived the clouds had set in so no new sunset. You should know by now I like these better anyway.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend. Remember to feed the black flies, mosquitos and now the horse flies. Something is bound to be feeding where you are. So enjoy.
