Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday evening, I think I need to finally admit winter is coming. That thought was driven home quite solidly with each snowflake that fell down my neck.

I think the bulk of the leaves is behind me for 2025 though. The total tractor bucket load count was 89. I believe that is quite a bit lower than last year. The wheelbarrow may be the removal method for any more. That is OK by me. We’ll see.

I do believe that the time has arrived to think about removing the front bucket on the tractor and to get the snow-blower mounted before it is too late. That is not a task that I look forward to, not in the spring, or the switch in the fall. I think fall may be a little harder physically but it’s easier to mess something up in the spring.

In the studio I work in a fairly cramped space. My cutting/trimming space is on the top of a bureau. The rest of the bureau top is a padded ironing board. The bureau backs up against the railing of the stairway going up and downstairs. This afternoon I managed to do what I try hard not to do. I knocked two small containers full of blocks over the railing and down onto the stairs.

One was full of 1-1/2” squares and the other 1”x 2” finished flying geese. Oh well, I cleaned up the mess and will wait to see how long before I do it again.

After completing #32 for 2025 my cleaning up process found me making a large bunch of units. Unfortunately, I decided I would not be using them until next time. The premise behind what is becoming #33 came from the 2-1/2”x 3” rectangles I told you about last time. I ended up arranging them something like this with two of those odd blocks and two of something else.

That gave me a 8” block, I then am growing them to be something like this.

It is now a 12’ bock ready for sashing and corner stones. Don’t really know what that will look like yet. Time will tell. I’ll have to decide on something pretty soon as I have about 3/4 of the blocks complete. I should get most of them done tonight.

The weekend is supposed to be cold and cloudy, who knows. As long as no more leaves show up I’m OK with whatever. Stay safe and enjoy. Hopefully we don’t get snow before I get the blower mounted and operational. Time will tell.

P.S. Saw this little guy as I turned on the front light before going to bed.

Cute little opossum, have never seen one around here before.
