Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Can you believe it? Another week has gone by. Boy it sure is colder now and here on the pond the wind blew straight at us all day, It was way too cold and windy to do any leaf removal. The load count is now at 25. I’m sure that will go up fast once the wind calms down a little. I would have needed to either tied a tether to the tractor or filled my boots with rocks so I did not blow away in order to work out there today. When I was bringing in the steak at supper I was afraid it was going to blow off the plate. Glad it didn’t, because it was good.

Here is my 3 second time lapse taken at 8:00 this evening.

I spent the day up on the hill finishing cleaning up my falling down woodpiles. The bottom of the pile in several places was starting to rot and had a funky fungus growing on it. I will admit more than I would have liked was thrown into the woods to finish rotting there. The area looks better than it did and is ready if new wood should suddenly appear.

One never knows when a tree shall fall. I heard a couple big branches break off and come crashing down while I was up there. I wonder if they make a noise if I’m not up there to hear it.

In the studio the top of #29 for 2025 is complete. I explained the process of my block last time. I won’t bore you again. I used my Corner Pop III to get the stars. I popped at six first then at three. It is a little busy, but just as warm to snuggle under. 65” x 77”.  I kinda like it, maybe not a favorite but not a dud.

2025-29

As I was cleaning up after the last two projects I began using up some 3” V-block parts I found. In doing so I realized that while there was a lot of squares in the 4” bin, there were few duplicates except for some ho-hum dull fabrics.

I checked my 4-Patch Square Up directions and see that the 4” squares will yield 6” finished blocks. So I guess I am making 6” finished 4-Patch blocks. I wonder what I will use them for. There are a couple ideas floating around in my head to argue about as I make a pile of them. I figure I can always decide how to use them later.

It does make it a little difficult deciding how long each quilt takes to make, when I may end up making a pile of different units while I am waiting for an idea to develop. Those units just go into the appropriate bins for later use. I think it will be at least another day of organizing and making units as I clean up. I do believe that the 6” 4-Patch will play a major role in the layout for #30. Time will tell.

Tomorrow, Friday, is supposed to be just as windy as today and possibly a little calmer on Saturday. The leaves are falling like rain drops and the shore down further on the beach looks worse than what I showed you last week.

I can’t control the weather, so I’ll take what we get and try to make the best of it.

Until next, enjoy and stay safe.
