Thursday evening. Another beautiful fall day, sunny, warm and amazingly calm. Outdoor duties today included gathering some wood to split, more ditch was dug and more leaves raked. The load count of tractor buckets containing wet leaves removed from the beach is at 43 with today’s two added in. The driveway is blown off almost every day as the leaves have been falling like rain. Not that there has been a lot of rain falling around here lately.
The leaves floating on the water was pretty. Unfortunately, I was only too aware they would end up on the beach for removal.
In the studio, I had told the owner up at Sew Orchid Design (where I teach) that the pattern from Studio 180 Design, Rangeley Star Table Runner, would make a good class. So they came up with two kits for a couple of fall or winter runners. I picked up the kits yesterday, and brought back the tops to them pieced and the bindings cut today. They took about 4-1/2 hours each to assemble. I was reminded about how little I enjoy following patterns. Sew Orchid will quilt and bind them and hopefully sell some kits and get some class interest happening. I thought they came out fine.
I also finished quilt #50 for 2026 the other night. Another large throw. I made this one a little different than most. I decided on the 6” stacked squares framed to be 8” then used a 2-1/2” sashing. I decided to not use pops and cornerstones but to put the accent in the middle of the sashing strip in the form of a square squared bock. The difference was well received in my Facebook world of quilting friends. Hope you all like it as well.
Tomorrow, Friday, marks Carol and my 55th wedding anniversary. A lot has happened in that amount of time. Who would have guessed when we decided after graduation from high school, at the ripe old age of 18 to get married, that our lives would have developed as they did.
We were blessed with two daughters and ran two successful businesses and then retired back here on Green Pond, where we met and the story began. There is still more story to come but these days things happen more slowly than in the past. Fewer adventures, more day to day rituals, more days just comfortable coexisting in our small little space waiting to see what comes next. One of the only recent pictures I know of is the selfie we took last week on the Height of Land.
Or maybe more matching the wedding photo would be a photo taken at the quilt show a couple weeks ago that I just noticed on Carol’s computer desktop.
We’ll probably go out to supper to celebrate if we can think of somewhere to go.
Stay safe and enjoy your weekend and remember that every tomorrow is another day to add to your story.
