Dan's Ramblings

Dan here ~

Thursday again. There have been a couple calm days but most days have been spent trying not to blow away. I feel sorry for the plants I transplanted, they hopefully do not get the life blown out of them.

I’m having a hard time getting interested this year with the planter beds. I found another of my large metal containers being filled up with roots from the shrubs growing on the other side of the fence. I will need to remove all the soil and lay down filter fabric on the bottom and then fill it back it in again. The fun part of the project will be where to store the soil as the process happens. Then there is always the question,”do I really need the planter?” Much like when I drop something, I usually think about it for a bit to decide whether I really need the item bad enough and does it warrant bending over to pick it up. I’ll probably try to rehab and keep the planter, time will tell.

I finished the neighbor’s woodpile in his shed. Then agreed to split and re-stack another cord or so he had stacked beside the woodshed. I started that pile today and got it about 75% done. I’ll finish up in the morning if the weather cooperates. The weather is supposed to be cold and wet until next Wednesday. Oh well, time will tell. I’m finding it hard to worry about planters when the weather has been so contrary, I mean make up your mind. I don’t get a real vote but warmer than 60ยบ would be nice.

The pond has not risen too much from the rain, yet. It has come up 5-6 feet since the ice went out. That is horizontal distance, probably less than 2” in elevation. Hopefully I’ll get the sump pump hooked up this season. Probably not tomorrow though. I’ll probably not get more plants etc. tomorrow either. Maybe next week. Who knows, I may blow away before then anyway.

In the studio I have been puttering and playing making more 6” blocks out of some 3”x 6” Diamond Rects and growing some 6” blocks from multi stacked Square Square units.

Probably they will be used in quilt #27 for 2026.

Currently I am preparing for a class on Saturday where the Corner Beam will take center stage. I am making some different 9-patch blocks using units from my toy box. The toy box is where all the ready to go units sit and wait until a use has been decided for them. These 9-patches all are being made using the units I have already shown them how to make in previous classes.

I’m thinking there are several scrap tops waiting in the toy box. I’ll just need to sew some together and add sashing and see what I come up with. Time will tell.

Enjoy your weekend, stay dry and don’t blow away. The wind does help with the dang black flies though.
