Carol here ~
We have several Mug Rugs scattered about around the house. Some are used for mugs like this one on the arm of my recliner,
some are used on windowsills to set plant pots on
and I have a couple on the countertop.
I noticed that the ones on the windowsills were a bit faded and the one on the arm of my recliner was getting kinda threadbare so I decided it was time to make some new ones.
I thought I would begin with a new one for my recliner so while Lena was stitching away on 2024 33 the other day got started.
I thought I would show you how I make them in case you would like to also. They are pretty easy.
I start with a 6-1/2" unfinished block. It can be any block, I used an Ohio Star Block.
I then add a 2-1/2"x6-1/2" rectangle on each side of the star block.
Next step is to layer the backing, batting and top together.
I then do some basic quilting, just enough to hold the three layers together, usually stitch in the ditch. At the same time I stitch around the outside close to the edge to hold it together.
Trim the backing and batting even with the top.
Cut a 2-1/4" by width of fabric strip for the binding. Bind and enjoy!
You can use any 6-1/2" block or you could also use some fabric that you would like to showcase.
Send me photos if you make some!
Lena and I quilted 2024-32 last week using the pattern SKIPPER

We then took a ride out to our storage unit. Dan wanted to swap some fabric here for some fabric from there and I was looking for backing for the final couple of 2024 quilts. Yay, almost there!
Daylight Savings Time this weekend ~ it's now going to be light enough for grilling supper!
Happy March!
